INTRODUCTION

During the past decade the magnitude of development in the field of obstetrics and Gynecological (ob/Gyn) ultrasound has progressed with a fast pace. The facility provided in this field and the standard care for patients at King Saud University Medical City (KSUMC) are equivalent to other teaching hospitals of International reputation. These hospitals are equipped with some of the finest medical technology in the world and staffed by highly qualified specialized personnel endeavoring to make Saudi Arabia medically self-sufficient .As there is an increasing need for specializationin the field of Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasound

As there is an increasing need for specialization in the field of obstetrics and Gynecological  there is a need to establish a high-grade postgraduate training program in Ob/Gyn Ultrasound in order to provide the immediate Staffing perpetuating standard of excellence and training within the kingdom.

The following program for training in Ob/Gyn Ultrasound designed to graduate well trained personnel who will rank with the standards of the international certification.

OBJECTIVES

To provide:

• Adequate training in ultrasound techniques and be able to use the ultrasound machine effectively. 
• Theoretical knowledge in obstetrics and gynecological ultrasound
• Practical training in obstetrics and gynecological ultrasound
• Research in the field of obstetrics and gynecological ultrasound

SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE OUTCOMES

On completion of the program, the participants should be able to :

GENERAL

Display knowledge, perception and awareness on the basic principles and use of instruments in diagnostic ultrasound and how the information taken be correlated in diagnosing patients as well as be able to diagnose the most important pelvic and fetal abnormalities

SPECIFIC

• Describe Ultrasound physics and Instruments. 
• Describe pelvic anatomy and fetal morphology. 
• Interpret lltrasound of uterine adnexa. 
• Perform transvaginal ultrasound. 
• Perform the ultrasound in the three trimester’s of pregnancy and recognize the abnormalities. 
• Assess the fetal Biophysical profile satisfactorily. 
• Perform Doppler in OblGyn. 
• Recognize the normal and abnormal uterine ultrasound. 
• Recognize the abnormalities in postpartum period and those abnormalities associated with infertility and follicular monitoring. 

FACILITY

1. Equipment: 

• Updated ultrasound machines that can perform color Doppler imaging
• 10 Highly speciliazied machines Dept of Ob Gyn US
• Number of exams performed per day At least 50 scan in Ob/Gyn are being performed daily at the unit plus emergency . 

1.  Staff: 
   • Experienced and certified four (4)  physicians with subspecialty training in Ob/Gyn Ultrasound and/or perinatology and fetal cardiology. 
   • Four(4)  Certified Sonographers
   • Four(4)  Certified Sonologists

PROGRAM STRUCTURE:

The Diploma program is a one year full-time program divided into two components :

Module 1 designed to build a solid foundation in theoretical knowledge and its application in ultrasonography.

Module 2 focuses on normal anatomy recognition and pathological conditions including reports and procedures.

This program consists of sequenced and integrated theory, laboratory,  and clinical instructional tracks. it is designed provide students adequate opportunity to acquire the knowledge,  skills and professional behaviors required of an entry level sonographer.

The program is delivered using a blended format

• A combination of hands-on and face to face training. 
• Internet-based education

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: 

A.  It is a must that candidate :

• Be a graduate of or applied medical college
• Completed 2 years training in either OblGyn or radiology
• Pass successfully the interview for admission into the program. 

 B. To be admitted into the diploma program the candidate should submit the following:

•  Letter of intent with summary of their intentions, what they want and their expectations.

Duration:  ONE YEAR OF FULL-TIME KSU Diploma OB-Gyne Module l&2

Upon successful completion of the examination, the candidate will be awarded King Saud University (KSU) Diploma in OB-Ultrasound
