KSU Regional Anesthesia Fellowship

 

Introduction:

                Regional Anesthesia is gaining popularity as a sole anesthesia modality and as an adjunct to other modalities of anesthesia due to many advantages of regional anesthesia. Regional Anesthesia Fellowship offers an opportunity to develop the comprehensive knowledge and specialized technical expertise required to achieve excellence in the practice of regional anesthesia. Regional Anesthesia service of hospitals in Riyadh namely King Khalid University Hospital (KKUH), King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC) and King Fahd Medical City (KFMC). Cooperation between regional anesthesia team and surgical teams plays a determinant factor for the patient’s outcome. This level of cooperation requires the anesthetist to master the regional anesthetic techniques performed during the surgical procedures and to know in depth anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and patient’s preoperative clinical assessment.

 

Objectives of the Program:

                Achieving clinical mastery of regional anesthetic techniques for the management of the patient undergoing plastic and orthopedic surgical procedure is the cornerstone of the Fellowship. A large number of regional anesthetic procedures are performed annually at KKUH Hospital for different surgical procedures, where Fellows have the advantage of learning state-of the-science techniques from the experienced faculty who are all experts in the field. The Fellow’s clinical experience is enhanced by providing regional anesthesia for new and cutting edge orthopedic procedures. Regional Anesthesia fellow work in conjunction with physicians who are expert in: Upper and lower extremities and plexus nerve blocks, Central Neuraxial blocks, Catheters technique, Nerve Stimulator techniques, Intraoperative management of regional anesthesia and acute pain procedures

 

Application Requirements:

  1. Medical Degree
  2. Saudi Board-certified in anesthesia or equivalent degrees. Other credential will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  3. BLS and ACLS certified
  4. Full-time commitment to the program, preferentially during a two year period.
  5. A letter of release and sponsorship form his base hospital for the complete period of training.
  6. Three referees recommendation letters
  7. Pass successfully the interview

 

Certification:

Having passed the final examination, the candidates will be awarded King Saud University Fellowship in Regional Anesthesia.

Location and Duration of the program: The fellowship is for 24 months (2 years), at KKUH.
