Arthroscopy and Orthopedic Sport Injuries Fellowship

(AOSIF)

                                   

Introduction:

Saudi Arabia has an estimated population of 25.7 million; young people participating in sport activities often represent large population. A significant number of young adult and children suffered from sport related injuries (mainly soccer), which necessitate appropriate and sufficient care provided by the orthopedic surgeons specialized in the field of sports medicine. Currently, no structured sport medicine fellowship existed in Saudi Arabia. We believed the educational opportunity which will be offered by King Khalid University Hospital Sports Medicine Fellowship will provide a firm foundation in the management of sports related musculoskeletal problems and the complexities of a Sports Medicine practice which should assist a fellow to rise to leadership roles within the orthopedic community.

               

Objectives of the Program:

The main objective for creating this curriculum is to provide a core curriculum for a two-year sports medicine fellowship. This fellowship will be a competency-based training. CanMeds roles will be utilized to structure the objectives of the training. Because this is the first sport medicine fellowship to create in Saudi Arabia, a special attention will be made in order to define and establish the appropriate objectives for medical experts meet the community requirements at Saudi Arabia. Therefore needs assessment (questionnaire very and Delphi technique) might be required in order to create objectives for medical expert role. Additionally, the Orthopedic Sport Medicine Fellowship Curriculum and structure of American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) will be used to guide us in building the objectives for the medical expert role.

The AOSSM fellowship committee has established the ideal topics needed to be covered during the fellowship. These topics represent the core curriculum for the sport medicine fellowship ideal curriculum’s contents, a prioritizing, categorizing and identifying the type of knowledge and surgical skills required is considered important during preparing  the curriculum’s content.

 

Application Requirements:

Candidate for this fellowship must have completed his/her orthopedic residency-training program accredited by SCFHS/KSU. A total of two to three fellows will be accepted in this fellowship.

  • KKUH Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship Application
  • Updated Curriculum Vitae
  • Three letters of recommendation

 

Duration and Location:

The fellowship is a two-year program. The program begins on January 1 and ends on December 31 of the second year. The whole training will take place ate the KKUH
