Units

General Internal Medicine (GIM - previously known as CTU)

GIM is considered as a subspecialty of Internal Medicine which embraces the value of generalism, which certainly is aligned with population needs. With the increasing number of individuals with chronic diseases in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. General Internists provide comprehensive care of the adult patient in an integrated fashion as opposed to an organ-centred or disease-centred approach. The GIM differs from typical medicine units in the amount of teaching taking place. A multi-disciplinary team provides care. Medical learners are welcomed in the unit and become active participants in the care team.

Oncology, Hematology, and Radiation Oncology

The academic arm of the disciplines focused on tumours, cancers, and blood disorder, the unit provides the teaching and academic work of the unit members. Clinically the unit operates under the umbrella of the University Cancer Centre in King Khaled University Hospital and provides chemo, immuno, and bio therapies in addition to radiation therapy. . 

 

 

Pulmonology

Pulmonology unit is one of the main division under umbrellas of  medicine department , has an important rule in provide academic and clinical service through varieties of services.

Procedures, tests, and examinations carried out by the unit: PFT, CPET,  bronchoscopy, and  thoracic ultrasound.

Neurology

The Neurology Unit provides a wide variety of medical services for different types of neurological disorders, including diagnostic services for various types of brain and nerve diseases such as stroke, epilepsy, chronic headaches disorders, neuroimmunological disorders, neuromuscular and peripheral neuropathy disorders, memory and dementia disorders, and movement disorders. The department also provides various types of pharmacological and biological treatments for patients with neurological disorders.

The Neuroscience Unit also participates in the educational curriculum of the Department of Internal Medicine. There is a four-year neurology residency program that is supervised by the Neurology Unit. Recently, a two-year Neuromuscular Fellowship Program was established by the Neurology Unit which is managed and supervised by a group a highly specialized neuromuscular consultants.

Sleep Medicnie ( The University Sleep Disorders Center, Sleep Medicine Unit)

The USDC is a 4-beds center that manages all types of sleep disorders and supervises the King Saud University Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program. It performs type I attended overnight sleep studies for all kinds of sleep disorders and type III home sleep apnea testing. For sleep-disordered breathing, the center performs diagnostic, therapeutic, and split-night studies. The USDC performs Daytime Sleep Studies “Multiple Sleep Latency (MSLT) studies” as well. The USDC staff are working around the clock. Patients on noninvasive ventilation at home are seen in the USDC, where they undergo education, training, and follow-up. In addition, patients come to the USDC after sleep studies to discuss the management plan.
University sleep Medicine Center is considered as one of the areas of competency in King Khaled University  Hospital at King Saud University Medical City. The unit established the first structured Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program in 2009 and has graduated more than 15 specialists from Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries. The training is accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
Also, the unit organizes 3 months and 6 months training programs for sleep technologists. The USDC is recognized as one of the research excellence centers at King Saud University.The USDC and sleep medicine unit are world-renowned in sleep medicine research. The staff of the USDC has published more than 300 peer-reviewed papers, more than 50 book chapters, and two specialties books.Prof. BaHammam has launched a bi-lingual online encyclopedia about sleep and sleep disorders to educate the public in 2002. Additionally, he has supervised a bi-weekly health education page in Arriyadh newspaper about sleep disorders since 2006

Gasteroenterology and hepatology: 

A specialized unit that provides comprehensive care for patients with digestive and hepatobiliary diseases. The Division of Gastroenterology has undergone marked expansion in order to provide state-of-the-art care to patients with GI disorders. The Division is recognized nationally and internationally for its contributions to diagnostic/therapeutic Endoscopy, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, GI training, and GI outcomes research.
MISSION: The fundamental purpose of the Gastroenterology Division is to provide excellence in patient clinical care, health education, and health research.

Encocrinology 

The Endocrinology and Diabetes Unit at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, provides its educational and training services to students in the College of Medicine at various educational levels, as well as for internships and residency program in internal medicine and other major specialties core programs such as neurology, dermatology, and others. The unit directly supervises two subspecialty programs, which are the fellowship of endocrinology and also the fellowship of diabetes.
The unit provides patients with all specialized and comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for diseases and complications related to endocrine glands and diabetes, such as type 1 and type 2 diabetes​,adrenal, pituitary, and thyroid disorders (hypo, hyperthyroidism, and thyroid cancer), osteoporosis, vitamin D deficiency, parathyroid disorders, obesity, polycystic ovary syndrome, lipid disorders and high blood pressure​.

Procedures, tests, and examinations carried out by the unit: Blood and urine analyzes to measure hormone levels. Imaging including x-ray CT scans, magnetic resonance, nuclear, and bone density measurements. in addition the unit do the Dynamic endocrinology tests, which are tests that are performed by taking samples at certain times and after performing specific procedures or giving specific medications.

Rheumatology 

The rheumatology unit at King Khaled University Hospital and the medical city provides a patient centric comprehensive care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team using an evidence based approach. The unit is considered the largest in the Kingdom in view of members and number of sub-specialized rheumatologists. Most advanced therapies are available to treat rheumatic disease through rheumatology general and specialized clinics.
