GERIATRIC UNIT

We serve adults aged 65 years old and above residing in Saudi Arabia, and their caregivers.  The age range is flexible for adults with early onset of dementia.  It is headed by a consultant geriatric psychiatrist and it deals with depression, dementia and other elderly psychiatric disorders.

MISSION

The Geriatric Psychiatry Unit’s mission is to improve the mental health and well-being of older adults through innovative translational neuroscience and health care services research, and through direct client’s care.

This unit will promote excellence in research, education, and clinical practice among its members.  It will disseminate information on the treatment of mental disorders with special reference to the changes associated with normal and abnormal aging. 

It will also promote awareness of psychiatric and neuropsychiatric issues to students, residents, and those who work with the elderly especially about those associated with the aging process.

• To identify the nature and causes of common problems.
• To use the most advanced treatments and to help restore mental health.
• To discover strategies to enhance resilience against the distinctive stressors of late life.
