Pediatric Orthopedics Program
Children constitute more than 50% of the Saudi population. Optimal medical care of this segment of the community is very important. Paediatric Orthopaedics is one of the growing subspecialities in Orthopaedics as treatment of children’s Orthopaedic problems is different from adults. The idea of establishing a fellowship program in Paediatric Orthopaedics gains its urgency. The aim of the programme is to provide the opportunity for fellows to drive maximum benefit from the diverse teaching clinical and research opportunities available at the participating centers, in order to become competent Paediatric Orthopaedic surgeons that can deal with common paediatric orthopaedic problems efficiently. Paediatric Orthopaedics service started in King Khalid University in 1984 and a special unit for Paediatric Orthopaedics started in 1994. The unit treats big number of the Orthopaedic problems in children and they are referral centers from all over the country. On the completion of the program fellows should have acquired the knowledge and skills essential to the practice of Paediatric Orthopaedics.
