FETP is a joint program between KSU and MOH and was launched in 1409 H (1989 G) under the supervision of the CDC. The aim of this program is to overcome the shortage in specialists in field epidemiology in Saudi Arabia and the GCC region.

So far, the program graduated 29 batches and over 135 graduates. Graduates acquire positions in different health sectors across Saudi Arabia and frequently full higher positions in the country including health program directors, department chairpersons and deputy ministers.
