Department Tasks

• Provide advanced subspecialty eye care: through consultative and specialty clinics covering all eye diseases for adults and children, serving KSU affiliates and urgent/referred cases accepted via eligibility pathways. 
• Perform precision ophthalmic surgeries: (cataract, retina, cornea, strabismus, oculoplastic/reconstructive) using state-of-the-art techniques. 
• Operate 24/7 ophthalmic emergency services: to ensure timely response to urgent conditions. 
• Deliver optometry and low-vision rehabilitation services: (refraction, contact lenses, visual disability assessment, low-vision clinics). 
• Educate undergraduate medical students: in ophthalmology through a balanced blend of didactics and supervised clinical training. 
• Run a structured residency program: to train competent specialists via intensive clinical exposure and progressive surgical skills. 
• Offer accredited fellowship programs: in subspecialties such as cornea, retina, glaucoma, pediatric ophthalmology & strabismus, oculoplastics, neuro-ophthalmology, uveitis, and others 
• Provide continuing medical education (CME): through courses, workshops, and an annual departmental symposium. 
• Lead research and innovation: by supporting projects, publishing in high-impact journals, and operating specialized Research Chairs and a Center of Excellence in vision sciences. 
• Establish national and international partnerships: to enhance research, training, and clinical services. 
• Advance community service and public awareness: via screening campaigns and participation in global observance days (World Sight Day, World Glaucoma Week, World Diabetes Day).
