Department tasks


- Establishing a research chair for vitiligo and pigment cell transplantation the 1st in the Middle East level in 2009, which is represented in the serious work in the field of basic and clinical research to understand the mechanisms  and develop the treatment of vitiligo and localize the technology of pigment cell transplantation in its various forms, and train doctors in scientific research in the field of vitiligo and pigment cell transplantation with the holding of scientific events such as seminars, scientific meetings and workshops.

-The department's five-year strategic plan has been completed.
- Obtaining first place in the global ranking of academic health institutions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, SCIMAGO, which is concerned with health research.
• The plan to convert lectures, small group discussion sessions, and alternatives to attending clinics remotely during the Corona pandemic crisis has been successful.
• The recognition of King Saud University Medical City as a complete training center in the specialty of dermatology has been renewed by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (King Saud University Medical City is the first center to have received this recognition in the Kingdom).
• Developing the Saudi fellowship and working to improve the outcomes and level of graduates from the university in a superior manner. A Mentoring follow-up plan has been developed so that each faculty member is responsible for following up on one to two trainee doctors, so that there is a meeting every 3 months. This has been evident in the success of all our trainees and their obtaining the highest grades in the Saudi Board of Dermatology.

-Establishing two fellowships in the Department of Dermatology, the first in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, namely the Fellowship in Dermatosurgery and Laser  and the  Advanced Medical Dermatology.
• The tenth batch of King Saud University Fellowship in Dermatology and Laser Surgery has graduated.
- Community Awareness: The Dermatology Department  social account @Derma_KSU was created on Twitter (X) and TikTok, where educational content, brochures and videos were published on it for the community, taking into account global awareness days and the activities of the Dermatology Department. Educational brochures were printed and placed in the waiting rooms of patients in the outpatient clinics of the King Saud University Medical City.
- The Dermatology Department has held many events inside and outside the University Medical City in Riyadh to raise community awareness about skin diseases, their symptoms, causes, complications, prevention and treatment methods. These events included psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, urticaria, hair loss, hidradenitis suppurativa, acne, skin cancer, and vitiligo.
• The guidelines for chronic skin diseases were written, updated and activated, including one for psoriasis.
• Reducing the waiting list for consultant clinics from one year to two months.
• Reducing the heavy crowding of clinics by visitors and most clinics' commitment to the numbers specified for them in the reservation system.
• Providing advanced therapy to different skin diseases as well as updating laser & phototherapy devices.
