Surgery Department

The Surgery Department was established in 1973 and is considered one of the most important departments in the College of Medicine in King Saud University and King Saud University Medical City. The Surgery Department currently has 77 consultants, 61 which are teaching staff consultants and 16 which are clinical consultants. The Surgery Department was and is still proud to provide our beloved country with the highest grade of academic excellence as well as clinical services. Many medical directors and health councils’ leadership studied under or worked in this esteemed department.


To be a globally leading department in medical education, surgical training, and scientific research, by providing comprehensive healthcare, adopting the latest surgical techniques, and contributing to the development of medical professionals to achieve excellence in patient care and meet the healthcare needs of both local and international communities.

The Department of Surgery at King Saud University College of Medicine aims to provide outstanding academic education in various surgical fields through advanced training programs for undergraduate students and medical fellows. The department is committed to delivering high-quality medical care through advanced and specialized surgical procedures, as well as continuous patient follow-up in clinics according to the highest medical standards. The department also contributes to scientific research by developing studies and research that improve surgical practices and healthcare. Furthermore, the department fosters collaboration and partnerships with local and international academic and medical institutions, supporting the achievement of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 by enhancing healthcare services and developing the capabilities of medical professionals in the Kingdom.
