KSU Board in Clinical Pathology Program is dedicated to training the next generation of pathologists through a comprehensive curriculum, hands-on clinical experiences, and cutting edge research opportunities Residents gain expertise across core areas of clinical pathology, including hematopathology,microbiology, and clinical chemistry, immunology, histopathology and other subspecialties (molecular diagnostics including cytogenetics flow cytometry,blood transfusion, and lab quality and management, while benefiting from mentorship by accomplished faculty and a supportive learning environment

Accreditation
Our Clinical Pathology Residency Program, accredited by the Saudi Council of Health Specialists.

Graduates receive the esteemed King Saud University Residency Board in Clinical Pathology certificate, accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS). This degree qualifies physicians to register with SCFHS and achieve the rank of Senior Registrar upon successful completion.
Additionally, the degree holds recognition from FRCPath (UK) and FRCPA (Australia), granting graduates eligibility to sit for certification exams in these countries.

  • Completion of the four years of training specified in the program
  • Training must include all subspecialties of Clinical Pathology Hematopathology, Chemical Pathology (Clinical Chemistry),
    Microbiology, Immunopathology, Molecular Pathology, Transfusion Medicine, Histopathology, Cytopathology, Genetic Pathology,
    and Clinical Toxicology Additionally, training should cover infection control and infectious disease rotations
  • Passing each end of year promotional criteria
  • The training should be in hospitals specified and recognized by the program
    • These hospitals should be accredited by an international professional body, e.g American College of Pathologists, Royal
      College of Pathologists of UK, Canadian Royal College of Physicians or the Royal College of Pathologists
    • Each hospital should have medically qualified pathologists
  • Passing the final board examination which is composed of theoretical, practical and oral examinations

Is accomplished through a combination of practical experience, teaching sessions, and interactions with attending faculty and staff members

This comprehensive five
year program provides integrated, in depth training in Hematopathology and Transfusion Medicine, coverin g patients of all ages.
Training takes place across the following esteemed institutions:

  • King Saud University Medical City (KSUMC)
  • King Fahad Medical City (KFMC)
  • King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSHRC)
  • Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs/King Abdulaziz Medical City (MNGHA)
  • Prince Sultan Military Medical City (PSMMC)
  • Riyadh Central Blood Bank
    These collaborative training sites ensure exposure to diverse patient populations and a wide range of clinical cases.

Residents will be evaluated according to PGME regulations.Evaluation includes continuous and In Training Evaluation Rotation (ITER) as followed:

  • Basic scientific knowledge.
  • Clinical skills and consultation ability.
  • Practical skills.
  • Interpersonal and communication skill.
  • Professionalism.
  • Resource utilizing practice.
    Formative assessments will be provided by rotation supervisors as needed. Laboratory technologists will evaluate residents during bench rotations. The program director will meet with residents individually every three months to review progress.
