College of Medicine Research Center Units

Bio Bank Unit

Sample collection and storage are dictated by the scientific goals of the biobank.

 

Unit tasks:

1. Implementing secure storage systems for maintaining, safeguarding specimen integrity, and managing data.

2. Developing clear policies on specimen/data access and use, stating the requirements, limitations, exclusions, and priorities.

3. Formulating packaging and shipment policies.

4. Addressing legal and ethical issues pertaining to bio specimens.

5. Ensuring quality management, safety, and cost-effectiveness.

6. Preparing contingency plans for future scenarios such as: collection's utility end, resource constraints,, donor withdrawal, or disaster recovery.

 

Core Fasility Unit

* Advanced cell culture and other cellurlar techniques core.

* Genomic Core: DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, NGS, and bioinformatics analysis.

* Imaging Core: optical, fluorescence, and confocal microscopies.

* The of space will be upgraded flowcytometry and immunology core.

Unit tasks:

1. Formulate a strategic plan for sustainability and operation models for current core services and future services.

2. Execute fair and open procedures for investigators to access resources in core facilities.

3. Encourage a collaborative research atmosphere.

4. Enhance training and  educational.

5. Identify opportunities with other research centers and laboratories.

6. Manage resource planning, evaluation, and assessment for centralized research core facilities, including continuation and termination processes.

7. Publicize core facility activities

 

 

Biostatistics and Data Management Unit

To provide suggestion related to data analysis, processing and data entry

Unit tasks:

1. To help researchers in the selection of the most appropriate experimental design, power and sample size estimation, analytical statistical methods.

2. Collaborate on performing statistical analysis

3. To assist researchers in the interpretation of the statistical results.

4- Provide support to researchers for data collection, management, and storage. 

Clinical Research Support Unit

Perform tasks related to clinical research and facilitates the tasks of researchers in this field and help them.

Unit tasks:

1. Foster clinical and translational research among faculty members, and enhance the quality and quantity of clinical research.

2. Encourage collaboration among researchers, and define research themes based on ongoing projects.

3. Establishment of 3 operational arms: 

The Research Project Support arm Assist with proposal development, grant submission, study execution, data analysis, and scientific writing. 

The Integration and Collaboration arm promotes affiliation with CMRC, forms research interest groups, and facilitates collaborations with non-CMRC research support units. 

The Educational and Quality arm Identify and address gaps in clinical research knowledge through workshops, learning modules, and graduate programs.

Undergraduates, graduates, and doctors-in-training research support unit 

Encouraging student and trainee doctor participation in college-conducted research

Unit tasks:

1. Encouraging student and trainee doctor participation in college-conducted research.

2. Delivering administrative, logistical, and financial backing for their research initiatives.

3. Creating and executing programs focusing on developing key competencies like quantitative, qualitative, and technical skills.

4. Handling databases for the recruitment of students and trainee doctors into research roles.

 

Administrative and Financial Unit

Manage and retrieve grants and follow up the accomplishment of existing research and facilitate financial and administrative obstacles to such research.

Unit tasks:

1. Provide financial advice for researchers.

2. Follow up the financial matters and pay the advances with the university and the dean.

3. Bringing, management and monitoring financial grants to support projects and research.

4. Facilitate the financial procedures for the submitted research

5. Following up the disbursement of grants.

6. Facilitate administrative matters related to units.

7. Drafting letters and correspondence for the department.

8. Prepare the annual budget of the Center.

9. Coordination between the units of the Center.
