KAUH was the first educational hospital in Saudi Arabia and one of university hospitals affiliated to college of medicine in KSU. KAUH combines a group of distinct medical qualifications such as consultants, physicians and technicians in many specialties with international expertise, in addition to, the developed modern technology in one of the finest hospitals in KSA.

Hospital goals:  

-to serve the educational side as it is an educational hospital affiliated to college of medicine in KSU.

 

-serve patients medically by well-trained and specialized physicians, in addition to, modern medical equipments  

- encourage and support scientific researches related to medical services.

 

- Train doctors and students in college of medicine and other colleges in the university as well as relevant governmental bodies in some of the hospital departments according to the available potentials.

 

Hospital History:  

KAUH was founded by Royal Highness Prince Talal bin Abdul Aziz in 1955 on a 31900 meter-land located on King Abdul Aziz road in front of ministry of agriculture eastern side.

 

In the beginning, it was called Prince Talal Bin Abdul Aziz Hospital. The treatment was in affordable fees. Back then, it was the only private hospital in Riyadh and one of the top specialized hospitals. In 1960, its administration went to ministry of Health, and then it went to KSU in 1973.  

After the establishment of college of medicine in KSU, the need to find educational hospital affiliated to it has emerged. KAUH has been chosen. In 1975, it started to function as educational hospital. Since then, KAUH has offered the best medical services to patients free of charge by well-trained experts to serve the educational side as well as encourage and support scientific researches related to medical services and attract well-trained experts to train doctors and students in college of medicine and other colleges in the university as well as relevant governmental bodies in some of the hospital departments according to the available potentials.

The hospital capacity is 104 beds for academic specialities only.  

 

 Medical services in KAUH:

 

KAUH offers medical services in certain specialties. There for it has been divided to:  

Academic specialties: it centralized around ENT and ophthalmology which have out-patient clinics where specialists who are faculty members work in it. KAUH provides services to diabetic patients in Diabetic Center which is one of the top specialized centers on the Arab region.

 

Limited specialties: there are limited services in primary health care clinics like Internal medicine, surgery, anesthesia, dermatology,  nutrition and health education for diabetic patients. There are also specialized medical units and centers like Day Care Psychology Unit, communication, acoustics, Physiotherapy, Gastroenterology Unit, and Care of Disabled Children. There are some clinics that include some specialties like internal medicine, surgery, Pediatric Clinics and OBG/GYN. Unit.  Emergency department serves its academic specialties like ENT, Ophthalmology and other emergency cases for both adults and children. ER medicine department works 24/7 receiving large numbers of patients from different ages. It is well-equipped with the necessary medical devices for most cases.

Clinical support services: KAUH has diagnostic support units like Laboratory, Physiology Lab, Radiology and Medical Photography which have the latest diagnostic devices operated by specialized technicians as well as   Pharmacy and Central sterilization.  

KAUH future expectations:

 

Considering the development witnessed in KAUH services and the increase numbers of patients and visitors, it has been started the new expansion building in western side of KAUH's buildings. It is 8 floors with clinical capacity estimated by 130-bed for admission in internal medicine, OBG/GYN. Unit, surgery, diabetic center and Day Care Psychology Unit. The new building will have center  for all specialties of out-patient clinic. In addition to primary care clinics which will be expand to 24 clinics for men and women as well as a complete educational center with 300 person capacity plus a discussion room. It will also has an offices for doctors and administrators as well as clinical support services, support departments and other general services like underground parking garage fits for 300 cars.
