Scope of Services
Rheumatology Unit is one of the many subspecialties of the Department of Medicine, College of Medicine at King Khalid University Hospital. It comprises of 4 full-time consultants, Senior Registrar, Registrar, Rotating Residents, Interns and Sub-interns. Each year, physicians in the Unit care has more than 300 patients on an outpatient basis, admit ≥ 500 patients and provide ≥ 2,800 Rheumatology consultations. The RU cooperates and integrates with the Department divisions like Endocrinology, General Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, Hematology/ Oncology, Neurology, Pulmonology and Infectious Diseases.
Scope of Service includes:
- Patient care
- Educating medical students and training of medical and paramedical staff.
- Research
Patient Care:
The I.D.U. will provide its services through:
- Consultations: Will be provided to patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by the on-call ID consultants & team in Clinical Teaching Units (CTU).
- InPatient Care: The IDU staff will provide high quality care to the ID patients with infectious diseases admitted to KSU Hospitals.
- Care for Outpatients: The IDU provides care to outpatients to 5 OPD Clinics run by ID consultants, where more than 3,000 patients are seen yearly.
- Consultation to other Specialties/Sub-specialties specialties - with KSU Hospital and ID referral from the different medical facilities within the different areas of K.S.A.
