Clinical Psychotherapy Unit

CLINICAL PSYCHOTHERAPY UNIT

The Psychotherapy Clinic is covered by a consultant psychiatrist who receives referral from other psychiatric clinics for different types of psychotherapy. We use different clinical approaches to treat patients who have mental disorder.

We help our patients with mental disorder to: 

  • Understand behaviors, emotions, and ideas that contribute to his or her illness, and learn how to modify them.
  • Identify and understand their life problems or events -- like a major illness, a death in the family, loss of a job, or divorce -- that contribute to their illness and help them understand which aspects of those problems they may be able to solve or improve.
  • Regain a sense of control and pleasure in life.
  • Learn coping techniques and problem-solving skills.

SCOPE OF SERVICE

This service is for those who suffer from emotional problems and neuroses, which are the most common referral reasons for psychotherapy. We have the following psychotherapeutic treatment in treating and managing mental health problems at KKUH:

  • Psychoanalysis and Psychodynamic Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
  • Interpersonal Therapy
  • Marital Therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Group therapy

Referrals for Psychotherapy Services:

In order to manage referrals and serve patients effectively and appropriately, our department has implemented a specific criterion referral lists to assist our psychotherapists in referring patients to proper services.

The Psychology Unit is covered by a specialist who offers psychological assessments for:

  • Intelligence
  • Personality
  • Psychological Intervention (including supportive, behavioral, cognitive, and cognitive behavioral therapies)

In Patient Department:

The psychotherapy services accepts referrals from Psychiatric Wards and Liaison.
