Education

Undergraduate Medical Students:

 

The GI unit plays a major role in the undergraduate M.D. program.in the form of lectures, tutorials, bedside teaching and involvement of final year student in clinical care.

There are 2 main undergraduate courses:

Med Course 341 is the first clinical course for third year medical students. It is a 10 credit hour course of theoretical  part (lectures) and clinical part (bedside teaching). The main objective of  the course is medical knowledge and mastering history taking and  learning the technique to do physical exam and know the physical sings of patients.

All unit Staff are involved in the clinical bedside teaching during Saturday AM, Sunday AM, Monday AM and Wednesday AM, in addition to 8 lectures covering all the GI and hepatolology topics.

The second course is Med Course 441 which is directed to fifth year medical students. It is 10 credit hours course, mainly practical part. The main objective of this course is to learn how to approach multiple medical problems. The unit participates in their teaching as we have 10 students each cycle over the year (total 5 cycles/year).  In addition to 3 lectures on GI emergency medicine over 3 weeks.

Postgraduate:

 

The Gastroenterology unit is a recognized  training center by the  Saudi council of Medical Specialties. The Unit  provides high standard continuous medical education to fellows in different Gastroenterology and Hepatology subspecialties by highly qualified  GI staff.

In addition the Unit participates in the training of medical residents as we have 3-4 medical residents rotating in the unit every 2 months.

We are conducting the following educational activities:

  • Bi weekly GI/Radiology meeting
  • Biweekly GI/Histopathology meeting
  • Biweekly GI/ surgery  meeting
  • Monthly Gut Club meeting
  • Conferences/seminars, either local or international
